Bussab foi meu professor de estatística e lembro-me de suas aulas, sempre intensas e desafiadoras. Foi um professor exemplar e, como diz a nota, generoso. Fará muita falta.
Well, life is full of illusions. And on social networks, those illusions are amplified. Many who broadcast are not who they appear to be. I don’t say this negatively—rather, this is the magic of social networks. All of the tools we have to update our status, to share pictures, to broadcast location, and any other signal empower us all to express ourselves online and (hopefully) eventually help us end up where we’d like to be.
The dark underbelly, however, is that much of the content we consume through these networks are highly subject to illusion. We may get the impression that folks are more famous, powerful, influential, or informed than they really are, or funnier or nicer than they really are. Social networks naturally concentrate and amplify particular voices, no matter whether those voices are right or wrong. We’ve all at one time at least fallen prey to these false signals, myself included, further fueling the engine of social networks.
Um texto muito interessante de Semil Shah. Uma frase sua que dá o que pensar: “As redes sociais naturalmente concentram e amplificam vozes particulares, não importando se tais vozes estão certas ou erradas.” E como a capacidade de discernimento sobre o correto e o incorreto é sempre escassa, então é alta a tendência da ilusão.

Durante minha infância um membro de minha família vivia dizendo que não devíamos falar corretamente porque “pobre tinha que falar errado” e seguir a norma culta era coisa de gente metida. Não liguei para isso e segui em frente. Não sou um Camões, mas aprendi algumas coisas e me viro razoavelmente.
Mas segundo o MEC, ele não estava enganado.
O pensamento torto do MEC me faz ter a seguinte impressão: já que não se consegue dar uma educação decente para as crianças, “ensina-se” que o errado é o certo e tudo está resolvido.

This publication presents 25 case studies of the civic economy – rooted in age-old traditions of the associational economy but using new organising tactics, ways of connecting with people and approaches to collaborative investment.
