- [ The Sociology of the Local: Action and its Publics* - Fine - 2010 - Sociological Theory - Wiley Online Library ] By Gary Alan Fine. Sociology requires a robust theory of how local circumstances create social order. When we analyze social structures not recognizing that they depend on groups with collective pasts and futures that are spatially situated and that are based on personal relations, we avoid a core sociological dimension: the importance of local context in constituting social worlds. Too often this has been the sociological stance, both in micro-sociological studies that examine interaction as untethered from local traditions and in research that treats culture as autonomous from action and choice. Building on theories of action, group dynamics, and micro-cultures, I argue that a sociology of the local solves critical theoretical problems. I examine how the continuing and referential features of group life generate action and argue that local practices provide the basis for cultural extension, influencing societal expectations through the linkages among groups. sociology academia artigos comunidade
- [ Virtual Government–Citizen Relations — Administration & Society ] Public administration theory and practice suggest that e-government, citizen participation, and government–citizen collaboration are contributing to a movement toward New Public Service—as opposed to Old Public Administration and New Public Management. We explore this by focusing on the relationship between the Washington, D.C., police and local residents via online discussion groups. We ask, How do police interact with citizens virtually? How are these interactions structured? and Are they informational, transactional, or collaborative? We conclude that the bulk of activity is informational, a fair amount of activity is transactional, and less activity is collaborative. Thus, the relationship most closely approximates Old Public Administration, rather than New Public Management or New Public Service. - [ The Origins and Restriction of Efficiency in Public Administration — Administration & Society ] This article is primarily a study in the history of the concept of efficiency. It is argued that efficiency originated in Aristotelian ideas about causality and acquired a broad, substantive meaning of “moving force.” This meaning of the term was dominant well into 20th-century studies of public administration. In the course of the 20th century, however, efficiency became predominantly understood as “technical efficiency”: a ratio between resources and results. This connotation is especially clear in the explicit “textbook” definitions of efficiency. Nevertheless, we claim that the substantive meaning of efficiency is still around, and even at the heart of much criticism of efficiency. Technical efficiency obscures that efficiency in public administration is to be assessed in the light of public values. - [ Relações de poder no projeto de Economia de Comunhão ] essa pesquisa se restringe a uma tentativa de análise do Poder nas empresas de Economia de Comunhão. Primeiramente, pesquisou-se, junto a empresários representativos, uma visão comum para caracterizar o objeto. Em seguida, realizou-se um estudo de caso em uma das principais empresas que se enquadram no conceito de Economia de Comunhão. O método de análise de conteúdo foi utilizado para a extração de ilações sobre o comportamento do fenômeno Poder nessas organizações. Os quadros analíticos produzidos sobre as entrevistas fornecem indícios que demonstram idiossincrasias nas formas de exercício do poder dessa nova proposta de gestão vis-à-vis as disseminadas amplamente no sistema produtivo. Tais evidências indicaram a influência decisiva dos pressupostos sustentadores do Projeto sobre as relações de poder, tornando possível uma prática organizacional próxima ao que se denomina paradigma radical humanista na teoria organizacional edc economia-religiao ecn_civil artigos
